As we approach the High Holy Days, stress levels at every synagogue increase. Staff and congregants who share the responsibility for shlepping, organizing, planning, purchasing, arranging, rehearsing, printing, security, singing, teaching, sermonizing, accompanying, and way more than I can list are feeling the crunch. Really feeling the crunch.
So, my request is that we all make a special effort to be gentle, kind, forgiving, understanding, and thoughtful during this next month. I mean, we should be this way all the time, but let's try a little harder right now.
See how it feels to give someone the benefit of the doubt, to process before reacting, to offer help, reassurance and a sympathetic, non-judgmental ear to someone who needs it. There is real tsuris in the world and there is stuff that isn't and maybe a deep breath is all that is needed to distinguish between them and move forward. בשלום Rabbi Susan
Kaddish at Temple B’rith Shalom is an opportunity to remember those we knew and loved. The names we say aloud are personal. People we have known. Let us continue to honor that tradition.
