The Jewish calendar has the potential to inspire, to surprise, and to elevate us spiritually.
Having observed Tisha B'Av ten days ago, the saddest day of the year, when we mourn, and lament, and grieve so many destructive times in our lachrymose history, we touch bottom communally only to experience the joy of Tu B'Av a few days later.
Tu B’Av, the fifteenth of the month of Av, is an ancient Jewish holiday when women would go out to the fields in white clothing and dance. They would choose spouses from among the men who came to dance with them.
This year, the lovefest of Tu B’Av coincided with Shabbat last Saturday reminding us that the pain of loss doesn’t last forever. Let us come together and hold our wounded hearts gently as we lead one another into the dance of Elul and the coming High Holy Days. בשלום Rabbi Susan
There are many opportunities for English readings and ark openings during the High Holy Days (Sept. 22-23, Oct. 1, 2) Email Rabbi Susan to request an honor.
Committees are needed to organize: 1. Selichot Potluck on Sat., Sept. 13 at 5:00pm 2. Break Fast Potluck on Thurs., Oct. 2 after the evening service. Please contact Rabbi Susan to chair or help. We need you!
