Brian and I explored downtown Chicago for 4 days last week. I attended seminars for many years at Spertus Jewish Institute on Michigan Avenue and was familiar with the area but hadn't been there in over 15 years. Brian had never been.
Of course, we had to root for the Cubs at Wrigley Field and relish in the art at The Chicago Art Institute at Grant Park.
Baseball is a loud collective experience. Cheering, booing, eating and drinking really unhealthy food, shoved together on the train to the stadium.
Art is a quiet singular experience. Wandering slowly past the paintings, reading the eloquent narratives, sitting on a well-placed bench to take in the splendor of a favorite work of art.
Both can be spiritual experiences. The strong sense of community and loyalty and pride at the stadium contrasts with the mystical sense of connection with an artist's vision.
We had a great time. Good to get home again (what's with that humidity?!) and good to get an unexpected dose of spirituality now and again. בשלום Rabbi Susan

Temple B'rith Shalom's Firearm Policy
This policy is intended to cover all Temple B’rith Shalom official events, whether at 2077 Brohner Way, Prescott, Arizona, or offsite at another location.
The State of Arizona is a “Constitutional Carry” state, meaning anyone legally allowed to own a gun (age 18 and over) can carry a gun openly or concealed, with limited restrictions, such as a school or polling location.
Temple B’rith Shalom does not deny congregants of their legal right to carry a firearm, but appreciates everyone’s cooperation by not carrying a gun openly while attending official temple functions. The Board of Directors would like anyone carrying a concealed weapon to discreetly notify the uniformed officer or deputy assigned to support official temple functions before entering the temple or other facility. This notification is for safety of the officer or deputy, as well as other congregants, should an incident occur during the event or function.
