Rabbi's Reflections ~ קהילה As Deborah Plotkin stepped down on Sunday after her two years as president of the TBS Board, I knew that she was both relieved and sad.
Easy to understand because she has worked harder behind the scenes than any of us really knows. She set ambitious goals and met them, she supported the staff at every opportunity, and she went so far beyond what the position requires that I cannot show her enough appreciation. She made TBS her home these past two years.
I have worked with many temple presidents over the past 25 years and I have so much respect for what Deborah Plotkin has done for TBS.
And thank you to Jeff for the many times Deb has been at meetings, on the phone, writing emails and texts, and serving Judaism in Prescott.
Bravo, Deb! Jessica and I will miss you!

Did you know that the Tikkun Olam committee of TBS sponsors a meal on the last Sunday of the month for the women and children's shelter in Prescott? The shelter does not have cooking facilities, just refrigerators and microwaves. Currently, there are about 15 women and children residing at the shelter. Our group is called "TBS Compassionate Cooks" and includes member and non-member volunteers. Judith McIntyre z"l started the project about 12 years ago. Annie Bernkrant currently coordinates the effort, sending an email with a menu about two weeks before the date of the meal. Volunteers "reply all" to the email with what they would like to bring, so everyone knows which dishes are still needed. Meal providers can cook or purchase their donation. Participants deliver their dishes to the shelter at 5:15pm on the appointed day. You don't have to participate every month. If you would like to join in this worthwhile effort or have questions, email Annie at anniebernkrant@hotmail.com or call her at (928) 273-5202 before July 12 so she can add you to the group email list. Our next commitment is for Sunday, July 27.
