For me, an imporant theme in the Purim story is masks and disguises and how they do and don't serve us.
Each of us wears a mask or two or three. We hesitate to reveal who we truly are. Just as Esther hides her Jewishness from the King, we sometimes hide our true selves from one another until the stakes are so high that we have no choice.
What would it be like to remove our masks? How would it feel to be honest in our relationships and interactions?
Could we? Should we? Do we dare?
