Rabbi's Reflections ~ Outreach A recent article in The Courier reported on the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz but failed to mention, anywhere in the article, that it was Jews who were murdered. Disturbed by this, I contacted The Courier (the editor assured me that they printed the article exactly as submitted by Sharlot Hall) and the Exec. Director of Sharlot Hall (who was quite contrite.) The author of the article also reached out. I think everyone understood my concerns.
Perhaps more positively, I will speak this week to the large cast and crew of the upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof at Yavapai College. The stage manager/director very much wants her cast to understand the context of the story. I am delighted that she reached out. I look forward to sharing about early 20th century eastern Europe.
It is important that we speak up and we step up when we are asked to defend or explain or enlighten others about Judaism and our people. I hope you agree.
בשלום Rabbi Susan
