On Yom Kippur, I like to stay in shul all day with those who feel as I do - that remaining on site adds to the spirituality of the day. If you don't usually stay, I encourage you to try it this year. You can find a quiet spot for a nap, chat with others, take a walk outside, read, meditate, attend one or more of the afternoon programs, or just be.
We are offering 3 afternoon programs. Optional of course.
12:45pm For those seeking a body/mind connection, Ruth Littmann-Ashkenazi will offer a 45 minute guided opportunity to relax on a mat or blanket or towel or chair for gentle stretching. I have done this for years at different congregations. I usually doze off for a few refreshing moments and feel rejuventated afterwards. Bring a mat, etc. and a comfy change of clothes to join us. I promise you will feel better afterwards.
2:15pm Eileh Ezk'rah readings in the machzor. It is traditional to read stories on Yom Kippur afternoon about those who gave their lives in Jewish history to preserve Judaism. We'll read together and share thoughts.
3:00pm Rabbi Nina Perlmutter will lead a discussion: "Learning More about 'G-d' in Jewish tradition." She'll start with a little Jonah, and then invite folks to wrestle with their own thoughts, and to feel okay about doing that even at HHD time, when there’s even more G-d talk, and when it’s hard to figure out where G-d might be with so many challenges in the world now.
And don't forget to bring your bags filled with non-perishables on Yom Kippur Morning and your shofarot to join the final blast at the end of the day. Let's fill the room with Tekiah Gedolah!
There's a tradition to decorate the sukkah with High Holiday cards. Drop yours off at Yom Kippur and they will adorn our new sukkah.
