It was during the Tony Awards on Sunday evening (my favorite awards show) that one of the winners quoted the Talmud during her acceptance speech.
“You are not obligated to complete the work,” Shaina Taub, the writer, director and star of the musical Suffs, said as she accepted the award for best score. “But neither are you free to abandon it.”
During three hours of glorious musical numbers from this year's best Broadway shows, this was the moment I will remember. In the midst of gorgeous gowns and unforgettably staged Broadway showstoppers, my Jewish heritage spoke to me loudly and proudly.
Viewing the world through Jewish eyes always surprises and delights me. L'shalom, Rabbi Susan
