Rabbi's Reflections ~ The future of American Jewry
I recently attanded a lecture given by Arnold Eisen, a foremost authority on America Jewry. I have long respected Eisen's intellect, research, and articulate understanding of American Jewry.
Eisen is an optimist. He speaks eloquently about the partnership between Jewish community and Jewish theology and stresses that they are both crucial elements for the continuity of Judaism in America. Though statistics may indicate that there are fewer Jews joining synagogues and even identifying Jewishly, Eisen is not worried. As long as a strong core continues to support Jewish institutions, celebrate Jewish holidays, stay connected with Jewish communities, and study the texts of our tradition, he believes we will thrive.
Thank you, Dr. Eisen. It is good to carry hope in our hearts.
L'shalom, Rabbi Susan
