Tisha B'Av has always been observed in Orthodox and Conservative Jewish communities. Reform Judaism, for a long time, chose not to focus on a fast day that was mournful and depressing. Nowadays, Tisha B'Av is often observed in Reform congregations as we continue to embrace more traditional practices.
Over the years, perhaps as I have aged, it has become more meaningful to me to gather and acknowledge that allthough we have suffered much throughout the millenia, we have survived.
Tisha B'Av at TBS is this evening at 5:00pm. Join us for a short service of readings, music, and an exploration into the Book of Eicha (Lamentations.)

The Jewish Path of Gratitude & Blessing Sunday, August 20 at 1pm Presented by Rabbi Nina Perlmutter
Our tradition has long encouraged expressions of gratitude. Even in hard, bad times we’re to stop, notice some good, and thank the Source of All. Talmud promotes doing this 100 times a day! We’ll learn & discuss how this plays out in daily Jewish practices both private and communal– from the time of waking up to bedtime. Thankfulness and blessings are integral to Jewish “mindfulness” practice.
