Rabbi’s Reflections ~ עִברִית Creating a Shabbat service that appeals to all of us is no simple feat. Some prefer a more traditional service with mostly Hebrew. Others prefer a lighter service with more English. Some want to sing their way through the prayers. Others would rather have more unison readings.
Every synagogue struggles to render services approachable and meaningful to all. At TBS, we are primarily a Reform congregation though we are not affiliated with the Reform movement. We use the Reform siddur, we sing a blend of traditional and contemporary melodies, and while there are many prayers in Hebrew, there are also English readings and a d'var Torah in English.
For those interested in becoming more conversant with the Hebrew in the service, I am delighted to welcome you to our Hebrew drop-in classes where you can learn to read Hebrew or, as one congregant requested, learn how to pronounce the transliteration that is present in the siddur (along with beautiful translations.)
Our monthly Shabbat morning service has mostly Hebrew prayer and a Torah reading. Lots of singing with guitar.
If there is a desire for a mostly English language service, let's talk about creating a weekly morning minyan service - contemporary melodies and readings. Let me know if that might interest you.
More siddurim (prayerbooks) are needed because so many folks are now attending Shabbat services! Donate $50.00 (per book) in memory of or in honor of someone special and we will place a book plate in the siddur. A beautiful tribute that will be acknowledged every Friday night when someone opens that siddur. Thank you to the Ackerman, Weiss, and Schanerman families for their support of this project. Hoping to have more participants.

A Message From the President
Dear Fellow Congregants and Friends,
Beginning in 2019 congregants of Temple B’rith Shalom came together as Team TBS to participate in this meaningful, community event. I send a special thanks to Lee Nackman who has been at the forefront of raising awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease and for coordinating Team TBS.
Alzheimer’s Disease has touched the lives of temple congregants directly and certainly far too many of us through family and friends. It's a daily, year-round challenge to those affected by this illness whether patient, family, caregiver or essential researcher.
Whether you choose to “Walk” or just support this worthwhile event with your donation, everyone is invited to participate. Money raised by the “Walk” will be used in Northern Arizona for patient and caregiver support programs, education and national research.
In 2022 our goal was to raise $1,500 and we raised $3,058. Supplemented by $2,000 from an anonymous donor, it brought our total to $5,058. Way to go Team TBS!!! Our goal for the "walk" 2023 is to raise $2,200.
To Donate to Team TBS: Click on this link:http://act.alz.org/goto/TeamTBS Options: Donate to the Team, to a Team Member. Join the Team. There is No requirement that you walk. There are incentive gifts available to donors making a donation of $100 or more and Register (follow the prompts).
Questions? Contact Lee Nackman, Team Captain at 928-717-0813 or roleenack@yahoo.com. Lee has a form available if you wish to contribute by check.
I thank you and Shalom, Trudy Steinhauer
