Rabbi’s Reflections ~ Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Prescott

I had the opportunity to attend a planning meeting for the Jewish Community Foundation last Sunday and was impressed with how much this small, but mighty organization has accomplished under the former leadership of Harold Greenberg and current leadership of David Hess.

JCF raises money from Jewish and non-Jewish donors that it allocates yearly through grants to many educational, cultural, and synagogue projects. They have established programs that have been adopted nationwide to educate law enforcement and government officials through Holocaust education. Their leadership missions to Israel in 2007, 2009, and 2014 exposed local leaders to Israel's beauty and unique needs. They have supported medical facilities in the area, brought major musical performers to our concert halls, and spent tens of thousands in our public schools to enrich students' educational experiences.

They are a committed supporter of TBS. We received monies this year to support our Religious School program. In the past, they helped with our security needs, our Torah repairs, even shared the cost of funding employee salaries.

I invite you to check out their website and to consider supporting this fine organization. Brian and I have become personal financial supporters and are looking at ways to increase our relationship with JCF.  Perhaps you will, as well.

Adult Education ~ חינוך למבוגרים

Broken Tablets: ed by Rachel Mikvah is a compilation of essays written by prominent Jewish thinkers about, you guessed it, the Ten Commandments. A fascinating exploration of what they meant back then and what they might mean for us today. No homework - we will read each chapter together when we meet. Interested? Weekly Wednesday group will meet THURSDAYS from 11:00-12:00 starting May 31.

Mahjong Lessons Continue! Tuesdays (join us May 9!) from 11:00-1:00 in our Social Hall. RSVP to Shari Brooks at Shari@jbrookswa.com for table and mahjong set planning. Bring your lunch or a nosh if you like.
