Rabbi’s Reflections ~ אֶרֶץ ~ Thursday at 7:00pm at TBS
SACRED EARTH: COMMON GROUND is an interfaith nature-oriented program that brings together folks from different congregations to share personal nature stories, to enjoy artistic performances, and to strengthen community bonds.
TBS is proud to host this program on its debut in Prescott. We will welcome congregants from Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist and Trinity Presbyterian this Thursday evening at 7:00pm. The program will be facilitated by the former director of Arizona Interfaith Power and Light.
I have been forming friendships with the clergy at both of these congregations through my work with Quad City Interfaith Council (I am the incoming secretary of this org) and with the Quad City Interfaith Choir (I sing soprano!) The Board charged me last August with the goal of building strong interfaith relationships and strenthening our presence in Prescott and beyond. What a pleasure it has been to do this sacred work.

A Message from the President ~ Passover Seder 5783
My favorite holiday, Pesach, as we were brought up to understand, is the story of the ancient Exodus from Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land of Israel. It’s also the beginning of Spring and the time for renewal. It’s when Jews all over the world feverishly race to buy matzah in excessively large quantities, matzah meal for those ‘floaters’ or ‘sinkers’ in our chicken soup, apples for charoset, the latest vintage of Manischewitz wine and please, let’s not forget the ever-present Passover jar of gefilte fish! It's when the cookbook Everything Matzah sprints to the top of the New York Times best seller list, only for a week however, and brisket becomes a prime commodity. This is the season of rebirth. Liberation!
Passover is a joyous time. A time to be with family, to welcome new friends to our Seder and others who have no Seder of their own. It is a time for singing, eating, to welcome in Elijah, and to find the afikomen. Passover is a particularly happy and festive time.
Last Thursday, April 6th, we had our second night Seder and those who attended know to what I’m referring. Over 90 people joined in our festivities, many of whom brought some amazing food (do I foresee the makings of another TBS Cookbook in the near future???), all of whom had a memorable and sincerely wonderful time. We rekindled friendships of those we hadn’t seen in a while, we met new people who recently moved to the Quad Cities area but the best was seeing all the children, interacting among themselves and with all of us.
Rabbi Susan wrote the Haggadah we used, beginning the service with the song, “A Few of Our Favorite Passover Things” to the tune from the Sound of Music, “My Favorite Things” and it only got better from there. We sang, we prayed, we ate, we learned, we engaged with one another and we all genuinely had a great time. The singing with Jessica and Rabbi Susan raised goose bumps on our arms and the children also had a great time. We saw them speeding through the Shul on the hunt for the afikomen and at last, success! It was found!
The evening was exceptional for everyone and to that, THANK YOU to Rabbi Susan and Jessica. As is tradition to end the Seder with “Shanah ha-ba’ah b’Yerushalim,” Next Year in Jerusalem! No. Next Year in Temple B’rith Shalom!
Shalom, Trudy Steinhauer
