Rabbi's Reflections ~ New Year What a contrast between the Jewish New Year and January 1. And, how wonderful that we celebrate both. Similar in the sense of gathering with family, friends and community but so different in terms of the solemnity of Rosh Hashanah and the often over-the-top merriment of New Year’s Eve around the world.
I imagine that many of us recall years of parties but may now prefer a quiet evening at home. An opportunity to do a little reflection on the turning of the calendar as 2023 arrives and 2022 slips away.
Happy New Year, dear friends. Welcome to 2023. And, um, don’t call after 10:00pm Saturday evening. I’ll be asleep…. L’shalom, ~ Rabbi Susan rabbi@brithshalom-az.org
How to clean your menorah: Take a cookie pan, place foil and then a paper towel on top. Lay your menorah down and place in the oven. Heat to 250-300. The wax will melt easily onto the absorbent paper towel and your menorah will look like new in just a few minutes. No need to scrap or dig out the wax any longer. Finish cleaning each candle hole with a Q-tip as needed.
