Rabbi's Reflections~ Hours of prayer spent sitting in a synagogue and only five days later we are invited to embrace nature and harvest and guests in a most wonderful festival called Sukkot. And, yet, many fewer of us will participate in Sukkot than in the heavy and often difficult High Holy Days.
I am always surprised that such a joyful celebration does not bring us all together. Beautiful weather, the lovely ritual of the lulav and etrog, and an emphasis on the goodness of the harvest and the goodness of our lives.
There is still time. The sukkah will remain decorated until Simchat Torah. The lulav and etrog beckon us to step inside the fragile walls at any time of day to recite the prayers posted on the trellis. Bring your lunch or a cup of coffee and revel in the emotions that come to surface during Sukkot. ~ Chag Sukkot Sameach, Rabbi Susan
