As we approach Selichot this Saturday, the High Holy Days suddenly feel very close. Time to plan the holiday meals, to locate the tallit bag, to let employers and teachers know that we will miss work and school on these holy days. Coming from Phoenix, where Rosh Hashanah is usually very hot, I can feel the coming coolness of the Prescott air welcoming me to the High Holy Day season in ways that I have forgotten.
We continue to do reflective work and conscience work as Elul continues and we come closer to the metaphorical gates of judgment. We continue to consider our lives, our goals, our values and our aspirations as we do each year at this time. The work is difficult, and rather daunting, if not even scary at times. But, we persevere in the hopes that 5783 will be the year that we get it right or maybe just get it better. ~ Rabbi Susan

Religious School News The Religious School is meeting this Sunday, September 18 at 10am!
The Teen Confirmation Class meets Thursday Sept. 15 from 5:30-7:00pm

Our teen bar mitzvah training class has just begun. Teens aged 12 and above are welcome to attend. The class is every other Thursday from 5:00-5:30 (right before our teen class). Contact Rabbi Susan for details.
Bring your compostables (fruits and veggie scraps, etc.) to the bucket in the sukkah on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings before 11:00am and our Social Action Committee will deliver them to the Saturday Farmer’s Market for composting. Questions? Contact Gene at ggalazan@msn.com Why compost?
1. Composting reduces waste, makes us less dependent on landfills, and decreases greenhouse gas emissions. 2. Compost strengthens soil and promotes healthy plant growth. 3. Composting reduces the need for pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. 4. Composting recycles essential nutrients back into the soil. 5. Compost promotes a prolific soil ecosystem.
Selichot ~ Saturday, September 17. Selichot, prayers for forgiveness, are recited on the Saturday evening before Rosh Hashanah. When Rosh Hashanah falls on Sunday evening, we join together for Selichot on the Saturday a week earlier. Selichot is the first communal service of the High Holy Day season. A moving way to continue our journey into the Yamim Noraim (Days of Awe.)
Selichot: Dinner and Service Saturday, September 17 at TBS. Dinner at 5pm, services at 6pm. Erev Rosh Hashanah Services: Sunday, September 25 at 6pm at The Event Spot. Rosh Hashanah Services: Monday, September 26 at 10am at The Event Spot. There will be a special Children's Breakout Program during the morning service. Tashlich: at the Lake immediately following Rosh Hashanah services at nearby Fain Park. Kever Avot: Sunday, October 2 at 2pm. Join us at Heritage Memorial Cemetery as we visit and remember our loved ones for a special service. Kol Nidre Services: Tuesday, October 4 at 6pm at The Event Spot Yom Kippur Services: Wednesday, October 5 at The Event Spot Morning services at 10am Minchah, Yizkor, and Neilah services at 4pm.
We will have a break-the-fast meal (potluck-style) directly following the conclusion of our services. Check the announcements next Wednesday, September 21st for the sign-up list to bring a dish.

Dear Congregants, Please consider participating in this meaningful act of adding the names of your loved ones into the Temple B’rith Shalom Yizkor booklet. These names imbue the very foundation of our Temple with the love you have for those who have passed. If you would like the names of your loved ones included in this year’s Yizkor Book, please either call Jessica in the office at (928) 708-0018 or fill out this form and return it to the Temple. As is customary, the cost will be $18 per person to have each loved one’s name listed or $180 for as many names as you wish to list. Please return this form by Sept. 22.

Ken Burn’s six-hour (3 night) documentary debuts on Sunday, Sept. 18 on PBS. “The U.S. and the Holocaust,” examines the reasons behind the country’s inadequate response to Germany’s persecution of Jews.
The TBS Women’s Book Group will discuss The Ladies Auxiliary by Tova Miris on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11:00am. When free-spirited Batsheva moves into the close-knit Orthodox community of Memphis, Tennessee, the already precarious relationship between the Ladies Auxiliary and their teenage daughters is shaken to the core. The Ladies Auxiliary illuminates the timeless struggle between mothers and daughters, family and self, religious freedom and personal revelation, honoring the past and facing the future. Return your Siddur to TBS!
If you are no longer using your Siddur for Zoom services from your home, please kindly return it to the temple. We are in the process of determining if we need to purchase additional Siddurim and we greatly appreciate your help with this process. Please join Carl Shulak's Lunch Bunch Torah Study at the Temple! Every Wednesday from 12-1:30pm Feel free to bring your own lunch but please no treif (pork, shrimp, etc). All are welcome to attend!
We are looking for volunteers to host an Oneg. This involves purchasing the food, preparing it for service at the temple, and cleaning up afterwards. We'd like to serve simple, light refreshments such as cookies, cheese and crackers, hummus and veggies, etc. It is up to you! The temple would be happy to reimburse any expenses with receipts up to $25 per Oneg.
If you would like to volunteer to host an Oneg, please contact Jessica in the office. Sign-up to host an oneg today! If no one volunteers, we will not have an oneg that Shabbat. We have lots of available dates in October!

PJ Library If you have a Jewish child (6 months to 8 years old) who lives in the greater Prescott area, you can sign up for the PJ Library and receive a free Jewish book each month. For more information about this program, contact the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Prescott at 928-771-3737, or sign up on the website, www.jcfgp.org. If you have Jewish grandchildren living in other cities, they can search online to determine if their communities participate in this program.
