Rabbi’s Reflections ~ It’s Elul!
Elul is the Hebrew month preceding the Yamim Noraim (Days of Awe.) Some say that the Hebrew letters that comprise the word Elul – aleph, lamed, vav, lamed – are an acronym for “Ani l’dodi v’dodi li,” a verse from Song of Songs that means “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.” The phrase also reflects the love between God and the Jewish people, especially at this season, as we assess our actions and behaviors during the past year and pray for blessings in the coming year.
Traditionally, the shofar is blown each morning (except on Shabbat) from the first day of Elul (Sun., Aug. 28) until the day before Rosh HaShanah. Its sound is intended to awaken the soul and inspire the spiritual accounting that happens throughout the month. If you have a shofar at home, make this your practice. If not, imagine the haunting notes as you awaken each morning. What a wondrous time.
More on Elul and preparations for the Yamim Noraim in the weeks to follow. My first month at TBS has been absolutely glorious. Thank you so much to Jessica, to the Board, to Arlene and Blanche, and to all of the congregants who have made me feel so very welcome. I can’t wait for what’s next for us all! ~Rabbi Susan
A Message from the President- An Invitation to get on board the Team TBS Challenge
Dear Fellow Congregants, At this time of year, I want to send a special thanks to Lee Nackman who has been at the forefront of raising awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Beginning in 2020 congregants of Temple B’rith Shalom came together as Team TBS to participate in this meaningful, community event. What do you think when you see or hear the words Alzheimer’s Disease? Alzheimer’s Disease has touched the lives of temple congregants directly and certainly too many of us through family and friends. It is a daily, year-round challenge to those affected by this illness whether patient, family, caregiver or essential researcher. Community wide funds raised by the “Walk” support programs to aid those suffering from this unrelenting illness.
Team TBS set a modest goal of $1,500 in each 2020 and 2021. Funds raised were $1,259 in 2020 and $1,419 in 2021. For 2022 the Goal is $1,500. Friends and family may be invited to participate.

Please, any questions contact Lee at 928.717-0813 or email, roleenack@yahoo.com. Donations will be accepted now and beyond October 1st. I understand there are a plethora of extremely worthy organizations with which to donate but Alzheimer’s Disease has touched many of us here at temple either directly or indirectly. I urge you to get on board the Team TBS Challenge and Lee, again we thank you for your leadership.
I thank you and Shalom, Trudy

If you would like the names of your loved ones included in this year’s Yizkor Book, please either call Jessica in the office at (928) 708-0018 or fill out this form and return it to the Temple.
