Rabbi's Reflections There is nothing as whole as a broken heart,” said the Kotsker Rebbe, Hasidic rebbe in the 17th century. It was in healing the brokenness of a relationship that makes a community close. This healing of past hurts is the process of teshuvah, continually moving closer to one another and to the world by living by our values. It is in the creation of holy spaces, where we can share and name our grief, that the possibility of healing begins. However, if we don’t first grieve over our losses and acknowledge our broken relations, we cannot begin to heal.
In the past 3 weeks, you have expressed to me in many settings our congregations’ hurt and pain after what was several years of brokenness. Members leaving because they did not feel heard, board members struggling to make difficult decisions, misunderstandings, anger, feelings of rejection and loss. A congregation traumatized in many ways and now, finally, hoping to rebuild and move beyond the hurt.
I, personally, wish that all who left, might return with a healed heart and an optimistic spirit. I understand that this will not be possible with all who have departed, but I want you all to know that the offer is there.
Teshuvah, true repair, begins only when we acknowledge the impact of shattered human relations on the life of Temple B’rith Shalom. May we name our brokenness so that our tears can begin to bring healing and the true wholeness of a broken heart. ~Rabbi Susan

Dear Congregants, Please consider participating in this meaningful act of adding the names of your loved ones into the Temple B’rith Shalom Yizkor booklet. These names imbue the very foundation of our Temple with the love you have for those who have passed. If you would like the names of your loved ones included in this year’s Yizkor Book, please either call Jessica in the office at (928) 708-0018 or fill out this form and return it to the Temple. As is customary, the cost will be $18 per person to have each loved one’s name listed or $180 for as many names as you wish to list. Please return this form by Sept. 12
May their memories be a blessing. Sincerely, Rabbi Susan Schanerman
